According to the respected Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM):

  • 61% of employers surveyed “often” or “sometimes” find inaccuracies in applicant résumés

  • 86% said that finding inaccuracies is either “important” or “very important”

And according to 2002 data collected by a major human resources firm:

  • 18% of applicants supplied false Social Security numbers

  • 33% used fictitious or incorrect names

  • 32% lived at addresses not reported on their applications

  • 30% lied about their criminal records

  • 39% misrepresented their education
